Techlandia

Created by Techlandia HQ

Techlandia is a modern dungeon crawl adventure, where 1-4 players attempt to infiltrate the high-tech corporate headquarters of the Techlandia corporation. The objective is to gain entry to the invite-only Techlandia TX-1 smartphone unveiling being held in a subterranean auditorium under the Silicon Valley headquarters of the secretive Techlandia corporation.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Techlandia Update #13: Pledge Manager opening this week, plus pre-order store, extras and more!
about 5 years ago – Sun, Nov 17, 2019 at 08:57:43 PM

Greetings, fellow Techlandia corporate drones! Lots of exciting updates coming your way as we kick into the holiday season.

  • The Pledge Manager is fully set up and about to go live, via Backerkit. A handful of backers have already received an invite as a beta test, and if there are no questions/issues, all invites should go out this coming week.
  • There's also a pre-order store going live this week, in case anyone missed the Kickstarter campaign and wants to get in on the Lovecraft-meets-Silicon-Valley action. A few extra goodies, like a playmat, some new STL files, etc., may turn up there as well.
  • The handful of prototype kits snatched up by backers are almost fully packaged and ready to ship. If you pledged at this level but have not sent me your shipping address yet, please do so asap.
  • Final art files are about to go to the printer, including some revised rules, the new Investigation cards, etc. Stay tuned for updates and preview pics.

All hail the company!

P.S. Need a tech-plus-games gift asap for Holiday 2019? My NYTimes-reviewed nonfiction book, The Tetris Effect, is available on Amazon, B&N, and other dead tree emporiums!

Techlandia Update #12: Fully Funded and into the Future!
about 5 years ago – Fri, Sep 06, 2019 at 02:46:18 PM

Huge thanks to everyone who supported Techlandia -- the game has been funded by the Kickstarter community and is moving on to the next stage of production!

Next steps include updating and finalizing artwork, card text and the rulebook, incorporating all recent updates and new content.

Then we'll send new RFQs to the manufacturers in the run for producing the game, and move right into production as soon as possible.

If you pledged for a Techlandia Prototype Kit, I will email you personally in the next several weeks to confirm mailing addresses and will ship these separately asap. Note that each kit will be different and one-of-a-kind, from different stages of development, but each is a unique insight into the game design process and very playable.

Deluxe print-and-play files will be available around the same time the final files go to the printer, so most likely sometime in the next few months.

A pledge manager through BackerKit is in the works. In the meantime, watch this space for updates, and I'm very happy you're joining me for this experience.

Best,

-dan

Techlandia Update #11: Fully funded! New Going Analog podcast and new card art!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 28, 2019 at 01:25:07 PM

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported this game -- it's been amazingly fun to develop, and it's going to be even more fun to get into everyone's hands as a final product!

So please keep telling your friends, sharing links, etc. so we can add more cool stuff to Techlandia! Speaking of which, here's a quick overview of the extras we're already adding, with hopefully much more to come.

Talking about games and game design on the GoingAnalog podcast

Had a fantastic podcast chat with the great Dan "Shoe" Hsu, a legendary video game journalist and magazine editor, who now runs and fun podcast and website about tabletop gaming at GoingAnalogShow.com. Listen at the links below!

Techlandia Update #10 New videos, new podcasts, new extras!
over 5 years ago – Mon, Aug 26, 2019 at 10:46:04 AM

Hello from the west coast, where I'm speaking at a video games industry conference this week! While I've been here, the good press for Techlandia continues to roll in.

Lastest media coverage

I loved this YouTube video from GloryHoundd, they spend a good 13 minutes or so of their show on Techlandia, and get really in-depth on the theme and the challenges of mixing genres. Really good insights.

Going Analog Show

Second, I just taped a podcast interview with the great Dan Hsu, a longtime video game journalism figure who now has a website and podcast about board games. It's called Going Analog, and you should check it out on your favorite podcast platform. My episode  goes up this Wednesday. Link: https://www.goinganalogshow.com/

A copy of Techlandia made from the PNP files.

He printed, he played

A BGG reviewer created his own excellent print-and-play version of the game, using the files here on the campaign page, and used it to write a very positive review on the BoardGameGeek forums. Martin Gonzalvez says: "We like this one. It’s a light, and light-hearted, dungeon crawl with straightforward mechanics, easy to learn, some good writing, and fun components."

Bonus time!

So far we've unlocked the new Investigation Deck and the 3D-printable QR code token STL files for everyone. I have several more planned, no matter what level we fund at. Next on my plate, new unique art for every Location Deck card and a 3D STL file for a custom box insert (I love good box inserts -- I've broken down and purchased more Broken Token sets than I care to admit).

Stay tuned for more!

Best, -dan

Techlandia Update #9: New Investigation Deck Revealed!
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 24, 2019 at 12:35:29 AM

You'll never guess what happens when your mobility is limited by a broken foot (long story) -- you get plenty of extra time to dive into cool bonus projects!

So I've taken one of  Techlandia's potential stretch goals and finished up preliminary art and writing work on it. And because I like the idea so much, it's now unlocked for everyone.

I'm pleased to reveal the new Investigation Deck!

How does it work? This deck replaces the current room investigation mechanic (which starts with a die roll, and then uses your Gear cards as necessary). Now players draw from this new deck to perform an investigation action, rather than a simple pass/fail test.

The Investigation cards offer many different scenarios, some good, some bad, some mixed. Blue cards give you credit for a successful investigation, red cards mean a failed investigation, but the rewards or punishments can differ for each card.

I'm excited about adding this idea to the game. It makes for a much cleaner mechanic, while adding only minimal weight and production expense. More details to come in the next rule book revision, along with a few other card updates as well.
